Wildfire Evacuation WorkshopMay 18th, 2024, 10:00 am – 1:00pm – Santa Barbara City College, West Campus, Business Communication Forum

The SBCFSC is putting on a Wildfire Evacuation Workshop at Santa Barbara City College on May 18th, 2024. This event seeks to empower our community with the knowledge to make critical decisions in real life wildfire evacuations. Our community has long asked for more in depth information regarding wildfire evacuation and we aim to provide just that.

We have partnered with SB City Fire, SB County Fire, SB County Sheriff’s Department, the Montecito Fire Protection District, SB OEM, SB City, and SB County to provide a suite of relevant information on wildfire evacuation. We have brought together all of the relevant agencies regarding wildfire evacuation to have a conversation with YOU, our community.

This event will consist of presentations, Q & A, resource tables, fire extinguisher training, evacuation related prizes, and lunch! Come between 9:30 & 10:00am to have coffee and chat with SBCFSC staff members and other agency representatives, stay after 1:00pm to attend the raffle and the fire extinguisher training.

Please RSVP HERE.

Previous Events

In 2022, SBCFSC hosted two wildfire preparedness expositions. These community events were centered around wildfire education for Santa Barbara County residents and homeowners. At these two-day extravaganzas, attendees were able to mingle with local fire departments, interact with various tabling organizations, and take part in many educational activities. At the May event, attendees were lucky to experience the “Walk Into Wildfire” exhibit, which is an immersive dive into what it feels like to be in and around a wildfire. The highlight of both expositions was the Santa Barbara County Firehawk helicopter landing in the parking lot and staying for guests to explore.

In 2023 we hosted another wildfire preparedness exposition, but this time it was in Lompoc, CA. This was our first ever north county event and it was a privilege to finally meet some of our north county residents face to face. It is extremely exciting for the SBCFSC to finally be making an impact in north county and we look forward to continuing our outreach efforts there. In 2024 and beyond we plan to continue these events and have plans for additional educational opportunities.
