One way the Fire Safe Council fulfills its mission of promoting wildfire safety throughout Santa Barbara County is through education. We are fortunate to have an array of experts who present their specific areas of expertise during the monthly Fire Safe Council Membership Meetings. Topics range from local fire history, fire ecology, fire behavior, fire prevention, infrastructure improvement, weather services, education and habitat restoration. We are fortunate to have Ethan Turpin from The Burn Cycle Project record these presentations and make them available here.
In partnership with the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, a team of UCSB graduate students are surveying local communities in order to learn about what plants are commonly found near homes. The results of this survey will help the researchers choose plants for future flammability testing. Click HERE to complete the survey.
