The Regional Wildfire Mitigation Program (RWMP) is a novel approach to wildfire mitigation. Fire Safe Council Director and UC Santa Barbara professor, Max Moritz, spearheaded a grant proposal to start a RWMP for the Santa Barbara County South Coast. The program was funded by grants from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the California Climate Investments Fire Prevention Grant Program.
At the October 21, 2021 Fire Safe Council meeting, the RWMP team explained the details behind the program which focuses increasing wildfire resilience to the built environment, the landscape, and the people who reside in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI).
